NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – Go green and get rid of old electronics for free. Just drop them off at the Verizon Arena parking lot to be properly disposed of. The Regional Recycling and Waste Reduction District is partnering with Goldman Recycling for the biannual 2-day electronic recycling event.

The electronics are loaded into tractor trailers. Each one filled contains 35,000 pounds of electronics. The Regional Recycling and Waste Reduction District says this year more people are recycling.

People can drop off everything from computers, monitors, printers and copiers, to TV’s, paper shredders, and fax machines. The goal is to keep all electronics out of the landfill.

Deputy Director and Recycling Education Coordinator, Carol Bevis, says these electronics contain hazards chemicals like lead and mercury. After collection, the electronics are taken to a plant to be disposed of properly. Everything is 100% broken down for reuse.

People who dropped off electronics say it helps clean up the house and help the environment.

Bevis says this special collection is aimed at getting larger quantities of electronics from businesses, non-profit groups, churches, schools, banks, hospitals we get large amounts. “We’ve already seen dramatic increases in the three cities since the new program started.”

Little Rock, North Little Rock and Sherwood rolled out a new curb-side recycling program this month, and so far it’s a huge success. “The two main factors for a good recycling program are definitely convenience, and spreading awareness.”

In just the first day, 5 tractor trailers are full, compared to only 3 last time. Electronics dropped off Thursday are expected to be three times Wednesday’s amount. Electronics will be collected Thursday from 8am until 3pm.

Household recycling can always be dropped off at the Regional Recycling District centers throughout Pulaski County.

The electronics recycling event is free to the public because of grants from the Department of Environmental Quality.
