The company Green Star is helping Fairbanks residents to recycle their broken and unused electronics.
Every third Friday and Saturday of each month, Green Star has a drop off location where volunteers sort through electronics.
If modern technology like computers with Windows 7 or higher is dropped off, Green Star will donate that computer with the donor’s permission.
As well as the modern appliances, vintage or antique items may also be sold as a fundraiser.
Airland Transport contributes to Green Star by donating a semi-truck to transport these items to Anchorage where they will be properly recycled.
With the help of a grant from the North Star Borough, Green Star is able to continue their work.
The Director for Green Star, Becca Brado says that it’s important to recycle electronics properly, to save valuable metals and the planet.
