New green jobs are coming to Hazel Park and city officials are urging residents to apply at an upcoming job fair.
City Manager Ed Klobucher said LG Electronics is getting ready to take space in a facility inside the massive Tri-County Commerce Center building at 1400 E. 10 Mile Road that opened this summer.
LGE will be making batteries for the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt electric car, he reported.
The job fair is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Hazel Park Recreation Center, 620 W. Woodward Heights, and LGE will be hiring for positions at their Hazel Park and Troy facilities.
LGE is hiring for positions in its smart solutions, green solutions and manufacturing of its vehicle component parts division, said Jeff Campbell, Hazel Parks community development director.
Were excited to work with LGE and Michigan Works in bringing new jobs to Hazel Park and Troy, he said in a release.
LGE is a multinational electronics company that employs about more than 80,000 people worldwide in nearly 120 local subsidiaries and is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.
In addition to vehicle components, the company also manufactures mobile phones, home appliances, smart watches and tablet computers.
Klobucher said the companys move into a location in Hazel Park is good for the citys economy and job seekers.
I would encourage people looking to work for a great company that is on the cutting edge of the green economy to attend the job fair, he said. They will have good blue collar jobs and engineering jobs they need to fill.
Hazel Park is helping promote the job fair as part of the citys work with the state and county to get the company to locate in a section of the newly built Tri-County building, Klobucher said.
The Tri-County building was completed earlier this year and covers more that 575,000 square feet on a 36-acre site that was formerly an overflow parking lot for the Hazel Park Raceway.
Hazel Park officials have said the project was one of the largest redevelopment projects in Oakland County.
Its a game changer for our city, Klobucher said.
