NEW DELHI: The BSE Smallcap index was trading up in morning trade on Tuesday.
The SP BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.72 per cent up at 17,875, while the benchmark Sensex was 0.38 per cent up at 33,487 around 10.05 am (IST). The Nifty50 index was 0.34 per cent up at 10,334.
Shares of MIRC Electronics (up 15.25 per cent), Kirloskar Ferrous Industries (up 12.11 per cent) and Simplex Infrastructures (up 11.61 per cent) zoomed over 10 per cent in the smallcap index.
Shares of MIRC Electronics got traction after company chairman Gulu Mirchandani said that the company is open to selling the business and plants if it gets a good price, even as it focuses on taking the place vacated by Videocon as a dominant Indian brand.
Shares of Century Plyboards (I) (up 9.82 per cent), Prabhat Dairy (up 9.06 per cent), Donear Industries (up 8.82 per cent) and Satin Creditcare Network (up 8.52 per cent) climbed over 8 per cent in the BSE Smallcap index.
However, Jet Airways (India) (down 5.49 per cent), Pincon Spirit (down 4.99 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 4.95 per cent) and Sri Adhikari Brothers Television Network (down 4.88 per cent) cracked up to 5 per cent in the index.
Bharti Airtel, with a gain of nearly 3 per cent, was topping the Sensex chart.
Coal India, power Grid Corporation and Axis Bank were the top losers in the Sensex index.
