Businesses accepting school supplies for families in need

GREATER AKRON — Twelve businesses, the Riverfront YMCA and the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department will collaborate for this year’s annual Good Neighbors’ Back-to-School Supply Drive.

According to organizers, Good Neighbors distributes school supplies to children of families in low-income or crisis situations to help with an expense that many families struggle to afford. Businesses help out in the effort by becoming designated drop-off locations.

Last year, more than 1,500 school supplies were donated through the drive, and this year organizers hope to double that amount to serve all seven Good Neighbors locations.

The drive this year will run through July 31, with donations of new and gently used school supplies being accepted at the following drop-off sites:

  • Akron: Dante’s Gameday Grille, 1019 N. Main St., and The Nightlight Cinema, 30 N. High St., both in Downtown Akron; and Act Now Inc., 535 Canton Road in Ellet.
  • Cuyahoga Falls: Citizen Green Electronics and Repairs, 1675 State Road; Craft Beer Bar, 1846 Front St.; everTek Repairs, 526 Graham Road, Suite 5; Falls Wheel Wrench Bike Shop, 2445 State Road; Lil’ Frog Fashions, 2010 Chestnut Blvd.; Urban Lace, 119 Portage Trail; Riverfront Family YMCA, 544 Broad Blvd.; The Hourglass Boutique, 1749 State Road; Leipold Tire Co., 1808 State Road; Young’s Screenprinting, 1245 Munroe Falls Ave.; and Cuyahoga Falls Police Department, 2310 Second St.
  • Stow: Leipold Tire Co., 3667 Darrow Road; and Young’s Screenprinting, 4299 Kent Road, Suite 3.
    Items being accepted include: backpacks, No. 2 pencils, 16- and 24-count boxes of crayons, glue sticks and bottles of glue, large erasers, pocket folders, zippered pencil pouches, boxes of tissues, pencil sharpeners, book covers, dry erase makers, packs of wide- and college-ruled notebook paper, colored pencils, blue and black ballpoint pens, protractors, graphic calculators, three-ring binders, organizers, plastic school boxes, round-edge safety scissors, sanitizing wipes, yellow highlights and washable markers.
