You never know when a zombie apocalypse is coming down the pike.

As scribes of technology, and keeping the old scouting adage “Be prepared” in mind, TWICE wondered which one indispensable device should be kept at the ready for the inevitable contagion.

But who to ask? Retailers? Not really. Distributors? Doubt it. Buying group execs? No way. Manufacturers? Pass.

We decided to ask the experts — cast members of AMC’s mega-hit series The Walking Dead, who were conveniently in town last weekend for the New Jersey leg of Walker Stalker Con.

Here’s what the professional zombie slayers, and other fan favorites, advised:

Chandler Riggs (“Carl Grimes”): Solar panels, which can silently power any and all gadgets without tipping off the hordes.

Carl votes solar panels.

Sonequa Martin-Green (“Sasha”): An electric heater, which can keep you warm in the winter and double as a cooktop when it’s too wet for a fire.

Sasha would opt for an electric heater.

Actor Giancarlo Esposito: “I don’t know, I’m not a device guy. I put my phone down as soon as I can. I guess a washing machine would be good, for when you want clean laundry.”

Breaking Bad’s Gus Fring prefers the benefits of a washing machine when getting up close with fans.

Russell Streiner (co-producer of, and first victim in, the original Night of The Living Dead): “My iPhone. I could endure not having air conditioning, and I could live off the flesh of fruits and vegetables. But I can’t keep away from the social contact.”

An iPhone might have saved producer Russ Streiner from becoming a zombie snack in the original Night of the Living Dead.
