HILLSDALE — The Hillsdale Kiwanis organization is again placing American Flags all around the Hillsdale and Jonesville areas.

This is an annual fund raiser for the Kiwanis Club which utilizes the money to help children throughout the county.

The Flag Program costs $30 per year and has been on-going for the past seven years and continues to expand as residents and businesses are asking the organization to place flags in front of their business or home.

The club members volunteer their time to install flags along the local streets prior to the five major flag holidays.

The flags are placed a few days prior to Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veterans Day and then are removed a few days after the end of each holiday and stored for use the next year.

Club members normally install a ground sleeve which is utilized to place the flag. Any business without a green space for ground installation will be provided a heavy-weight stand that is placed on the sidewalk outside the business.

The flags are 3-inch by 5-inch and mounted on a metal pole.

Since the programs inception, the Flag Program has grown to almost 700 flags being placed around the area.

People are taking pride in their country and community by subscribing to the program, donating flags to neighbors, or for mounting at the fairgrounds, courthouse lawn, etc., said Steven Sczytko.

“Take a ride around our community and see the wonderful displays,” he said.
