Raleigh, N.C. — Seniors Will Harkins and Alex Clinkscales scored a combined 32 points Monday afternoon to push Green Hope past Wakefield, 61-53, Monday afternoon at the Athens Drive Marin Luther King Showcase.
Harkins led the team with 16 points and Clinkscales added another 15 points for the Falcons.
Green Hope outscored the Wolverines 11-8 after the first eight minutes of play and built its lead by four points at halftime.
Falcons John Green said he was pleased with the win, but would like to have seen consistency throughout the contest
“I thought it was a struggle early; not a lot of movement on offense,” said Green Hope head coach John Green. “I thought defensively we weren’t doing a good job getting to the help side.”
Wakefield didn’t back down in the second half, but the Falcons used a 28-24 run to hold the Wolverines off.
Green said the team’s slow start to the game may have been caused by missed practice and game time due to holidays and the recent winter storm.
“Christmas and the holiday break, and then the snow, we couldn’t get a whole lot of consistency in practice,” Green said. “We need exams, and we need a week of practice so we can get back.”
Seniors Traie Smith and Tyler Wilson led the way for Wakefield with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Junior guard added nine points for the Wolverines.
Green Hope (14-2, 7-1 SWAC) will host Fuquay-Varina at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and Wakefield (8-8, 1-5 Cap-8) will return to action Friday and host Sanderson at 7 p.m.
