Famous for its abundance of wildlife including leatherback turtles, monkeys and jaguars, Costa Rica is a great spot for animal lovers.
If you’re lucky enough you can even spot the giant turtles – which can measure up to six feet – coming up to the shore to lay their eggs.
In terms of beaches, Playa Manuel Antonio in the national park of the same name is hard to beat.
The Nicoya Peninsula, with it’s rolling green hills and long white sandy stretches is also a must-see.
There is a low threat from terrorism, but you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks, which could be in public areas, including those frequented by foreigners.
