Trans-Siberian Orchestra will play a pair of shows at the Resch Center as part of its 2016 Winter Tour, and unlike TSO’s last visit, which came after the holidays on Jan. 2, 2015, this year’s stop comes perfectly timed.

The holiday touring force will perform at 4 and 8 p.m. Dec. 9, according to the itinerary posted on its website. That’s a Friday night of a home Green Bay Packers weekend; the Seattle Seahawks come to town Dec. 11.

The 2016 Winter Tour will expand on “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve” rock opera TSO took out on the road for the first time last year. Green Bay missed out on that tour. The 2015 visit to the Resch — TSO’s first holiday stop in Green Bay since 2009 — was actually one of the last dates on the 2014 tour, which was based on “The Christmas Attic” rock opera. A combined crowd of 15,000 took in those two sold-out shows.

So this will be the first chance for the local TSO faithful to check out “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve” as a live production. It mixes segments of the TV special of the same name with a live narrator and full rock band — a first for TSO, which travels with truckloads of special effects. TSO has said the strong response to last year’s tour influenced its decision to bring it back.

The tour begins Nov. 17 and runs through Dec. 31, with two separate production companies criss-crossing the country. The majority of the dates call for a matinee and evening performance in each city. In addition to the Resch, BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee gets two shows on Dec. 11.

The Green Bay shows have not yet been confirmed by PMI Entertainment Group, which manages the Resch, and ticket prices have not been announced.

The tour will also include some of TSO’s classic hits, such as “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24,” “Requiem” and “Wizards in Winter.”
