Australian entrepreneur Peter Blackshaw, who enjoys a life of relative leisure since selling his property websites, bought a flat in Paris’s Marais district simply because he loved the city – and then invested in Barcelona’s Eixample to make the most of Spain’s golden visa scheme, which allows him to travel to Paris, and Europe in general, far more easily and flexibly.

“Then we discovered we loved Barcelona so much, we have bought a bigger flat there for regular stays,” says Blackshaw, who splits his Oz time between homes in Sydney, Canberra and Byron Bay. “We have no intention at this stage of renting any of our homes out. My wife and I generally travel to Europe for up to six weeks at a time, then spend 6-8 weeks in Australia.”
