A new senior living facility is now open in Green Oaks on the 15 acres previously occupied by Jamaican Gardens, which went out of business nearly seven years ago and experienced a fire more than four years ago.

The 200,000-square-foot campus located at 14595 W. Rockland Road wraps around lakes and includes nearly 200 apartments, which vary in size from studios to two-bedroom, two-bath residences and cottages, according to the promotional materials.

Denver-based Spectrum Retirement Communities spent $47 million building the residential community, according to a press release. The facility is named Green Oaks Senior Living.

Lesley Durkan, Spectrum’s vice president of operations and Midwest supervisor, said the first residents moved in Aug. 21.
