For the past three years, the Green Lifestyle Awards have recognised and congratulated the top leaders in the green industry.
Among those awarded this year was one of the co-originators of Permaculture, and long-time champion of environmental issues, David Holmgren, who was inducted into the Green Lifestyle Hall of Fame.
Holmgren said in his acceptance speech, “It’s a great honour to be awarded the Green Lifestyle Hall of Fame Award – and quite a surprise!”
“I want to acknowledge the large number of people that have been nominated for these awards, and to emphasise that what we do in our own lives does make a difference,” said Holmgren.
“I think this is something which is still slow to be recognised by the politicos, by the big people, that the way we change ourselves from being irresponsible consumers to responsible producers is an important shift that’s very necessary.”
Holmgren’s full video speech is now available on the Green Lifestyle website, along with this year’s Local Green Hero winner, sustainable lifestyle author and blogger Rhonda Hetzel.
Around 140 people attended the awards presentation at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability in Waverton, Sydney. These included many of the winners and highly commended in 30 categories covering food, fashion, beauty, garden, home, kids, wellbeing, travel, transport, online, and business.
Green Lifestyle’s editor Caitlin Howlett, said, “We started the Green Lifestyle Awards to recognise dedication on the part of individuals, companies and non-government organisations in contributing to a more sustainable Australia.”
“I’m proud of the opportunity for the Green Lifestyle Awards to recognise and celebrate great achievements in the green scene – it’s something we don’t stop to do often enough,” she said.
