WAUSAU, Wis., (WSAW)– The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has made the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s top 30 College and University list of largest green power users from the Green Power Partnership.
Tuesday on Sunrise 7, UWSP’s sustainability coordinator Dave Barbier discussed easy and affordable ways to go green at home.
UW-Stevens Point was ranked 26th among the Top 30 College and University list, which represents the largest green power users among higher education institutions within the Green Power Partnership.
UW-Madison ranked number 13 and is the only other Wisconsin University that made the list.
The university purchases renewable energy credits through Renewable Choice Energy, a leading global provider of customized clean energy products and services.
Barbier said there are 9 easy steps to living more sustainable.
-Use a sustainable bag like paper or cloth
-Recycle and reuse more
-Minimize food waste, compost
-Reduce energy consumption: use efficient bulbs, shut of lights when not in the room
-Use reusable containers
-Purchase with less packaging
-Use “green” clean supplies
-Walk/bike to work
