DUBAI: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) launched its annual Tips Before Travelling campaign for the fourth year in a row.
The campaign includes a number of tips and guidelines for customers to follow before going on summer holidays.
The campaign aims to conserve electricity and water, while maintaining the households of customers.
These tips help to protect natural resources and reduce costs.
Dewa’s Tips Before Travelling campaign encourage members of the community to reduce energy and water use in their homes while out of the country for extended periods.
Tips include turning off lights and unplugging unnecessary electrical appliances such as water heaters, and air conditioning, which contribute greatly to energy use.
To reduce water use, Dewa asks all customers to ensure there are no leaks within their homes by checking all taps and internal wiring in their bathrooms and kitchens.
These leaks can waste over 32,000 gallons of water per year.
Dewa also advises customers to ensure they turn off all taps before leaving the house.
The Tips Before Travelling campaign add to Dewa’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about rationalising electricity and water use, to preserve the environment and natural resources.
This campaign supports the Demand Side Management Strategy 2030 to reduce electricity demand by 30 per cent by 2030.
“The strategy features nine major aspects including specifications and regulations for green construction, retrofitting existing buildings, district cooling, reusing waste water, laws and strategies to enhance the efficiency of appliances and street lighting, and strategies to enhance the efficiency of Dewa’s Shams Dubai initiative,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa.
“Dewa works to achieve the happiness of all the citizens and residents of Dubai, whether they choose to stay in Dubai over the summer months or not.
“It strives to conserve water and electricity through initiatives that promote the rationalisation of consumption.
“Dewa’s approach adheres to its strategic objectives and its vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, while promoting rational consumption within the community,” added Al Tayer.
Dewa’s Tips Before Travelling campaign is part of the “Let’s Make this Summer Green” initiative, launched by Dewa to coincide with World Environment Day, to rationalise electricity and water use over the summer.
